When I was riding my bike to work yesterday, I totally got pooped on by a bird. When I got to work I had to go straight to a morning meeting where this dude I work with said "Oh that's lucky! You should buy a lottery ticket." The guy is from Hong Kong and if you didn't know, it's some Asian thing where they believe getting pooped on by a bird is lucky. Japanese people say the same thing. It's something about the probability of poop landing on you or something dumb. I really don't understand why that doesn't just mean that you're exceptionally unlucky.So, I took their advice. I bought one of those Lucky For Life scratch tickets. And you know what? I didn't win a damn thing. I was talking to another guy at work about it later and he suggested that maybe I really was lucky because the money I would have won could have ruined my life. I thought that made sense like some cursed monkey paw thing or something. Well, at least it made sense until Jeremy brought up the point that I probably wouldn't have bought the ticket if I hadn't have gotten pooped on in the first place.

This is the Bestiary Book. It's an art project some lady made recently. It works by having a camera read the little bar codes in the the top corners of the page and changing the image that a projector is projecting onto the book. The implementation is kind of lame. She could have totally put video or animations or something. If she did, it would sure beat those lame-ass picture books that used to come with records that narrate the story and blast some annoying noise when you're supposed to turn the page.But seriously... what's up with augmented reality recently and how did it get so awesome so fast? I only started hearing about it like less than a year ago. It was like some dumb Japanese software you could buy that came with a cube with different black and white patterns printed on each side. I think it was something like if you held up the cube to your web cam, some scantily clad cartoon French maid would appear on top of it. The thing cost like more than $50 though. Now, even the new Star Trek movie has a pretty awesome augmented reality thing on their promo website for free (you can check it out here).

I found these ads on some weird Russian art/media blog. They're print ads for Renault with unfortunate domain names and the tag line "Isn't it awful with things get crowded together?" Click my personal favorite below to go to the Russian blog. The image is kind of hard to read, but this is an actual website for what looks to be some kind of toy consignment store called Kid's Exchange. Though it's not included in this ad campaign, my favorite classic unfortunate domain name is for a plant nursery named Mole Station. It looks like the original site went down, but you can see the dumb squatter site at www.molestationnursery.com

The MPAA (the RIAA douchebags of movies) released the following instructional video to educational institutions after they requested an exemption for ripping DVDs for classroom use.What was their legal alternative? Video taping the goddamn TV! Sources say this isn't a joke either.I'm not sure I understand how this is more legal than ripping. Can't the government just step in already? I wonder how much they have to pay in lobby dollars to still be taken seriously.

So there's this girl that sits next to me at work named Marta. After the first few times I talked to her, I started to notice that she admitted to hating a lot of stuff. It seemed like every time we had a conversation, she would mention at least one new thing that she hates.After a while, I started to become fascinated by the sheer number of hated items and decided to starting recording them in a list.I am now putting this list online to allow others to marvel at it's heft.Anyway, here's the link to that list. Super-cool 3D Projections on Buildings

These 3D projections were done by a company called Easyweb in France that specializes in this stuff. A while back, me and Jeremy saw something like this in Kobe. They projected different neon colors on like every brick of the front of this old building. It was pretty cool to see up close, but it was nothing like this.I think it would be cool if you could tow around those projectors and have them project on you. You could project a different outfit like every 5 seconds. You could also accessorizes with stuff like swinging tails and bouncing nipples.

While exploring some mammoth/woolly rhino graveyard in Siberia, a bunch of Russian scientists found this 5,000,000 year old bacterium that was still alive in the soil. I'm not clear as to why, but they started inoculating mice with it and it had some crazy effects on them. Elderly mice experienced increased physical, mental and sexual activity and it seemed like it extended their life expectancies too. They also got a female mouse of 70 (in mouse years) knocked-up!While an anti-aging/pro-aging boner, all-in-one solution sounds awesome, I can't help but think this is the beginning of a horny zombie plague (or World War Z with erections). I found this bento on the same blog that the Bacon and Cheese roll is posted on. Check out the attention to detail. The bento artist even included meat(ish?) cubes like the ones Wall-e compacts and stacks in the beginning of the movie on one side, and vegitation on the other.The artist who made this has an awesome blog which has a bunch of her handy work on display. Well it kept bugging me so I blindly googled her name (maiden name is Patricia Costagliola) and Sonseed. I was shocked to find this!Not only was she in Sonseed, she used to be married to the lead singer! I've only known her while she's been married to my former band teacher and mentor Mr. Kim. And yes it's true, she is now the director of education and community programs for the Seattle Symphony.By the way, the blog I found this info on is actually pretty awesome. I saw these two videos on The Stranger site today. They were the butt of their typical "let's prove there really is a liberal media bias" anti-right slander campaign jokes (which are funny but they can be too much sometimes... it comes off kinda lazy). Anyway, these videos/songs are pretty cool in an ironic and literal way.This one is early 80's Ska/Calypso(?) circa Blondie. If you ignore the lyrics, it's not bad. Plus the guitar player is rocking the f#@k out (although I kind of think the keyboard player might be the choir teacher from my high school, Mrs. Kim).The second is my favorite though! It's like Synth-Pop circa Duran Duran but like if Duran Duran was sampled by a Hip-Hop producer and then the white man went and took it back and had his mega-church band play it.As the original post on the Slog previously stated, there is no way to not crack up at like 1:54.Anyway... this beat is tight... in a watered down Kool-Aide trying to pass as Powerade sort of way. I think it would help a lot if they didn't smile so much and weren't wearing church clothes though.UPDATE: Sorry but "The Way International" are bunch of greedy bastards and they took the second video due to a "copyright claim." I thought the whole point of filming this was to get to word of Christ out. That seems really un-christian to yank this video. DVD sales in their mega-church's gift shop must be down...

Bandai just came out with grown-up version of the Lite-brite called luminodot. I want one of these so bad. Actually, I want to replace all the stuff we have hung up on the walls of our house with these. From what I can figure on the website, you can't actually animate it. I mean I guess you could make a stop-motion video using this, but that would probably take an army of Korean animators to make it worthwhile.

Recently, Jeremy has been all about growing his own food inside his apartment. We were reading info about hydroponics, but it seems like kind of a lot of work to set everything up and a lot of trial and error to get stuff to grow. Well today I found this: a Chia Pet like, super user-friendly mini hydroponic set up called a "Power-Plant." It's made by a cooking tools company called Prepera. It's also pretty affordable too at $39.95 for the planter and $9.95 for nutrient refills that make 10 gallons worth. You can check out the product page here. Anyway... Waring: I mainly posted this for my mom.We went to my parent's house tonight and my mom was watching that show "America's Got Talent." I'd never really seen it before. It's kind of like the Gong Show... but serious. Anyway, they're ramping up for the final 10 acts and one of the more popular ones is a 4 year-old girl who sings. It was a little too staged for Yoshie's taste and creeped us both out a little. When we got home, Yoshie was looking for her favorite kid act: the little Korean kid who sings "Hey Jude."While she was looking though, she found the following video. Even better!

This pic has been circling the tubes for a little while now. Most of the time it's accompanied by some dumb caption like "Redneck Mansion" or whatever. But the first thing I thought when I saw this was "Woah! That's like the extra deluxe version of the fort of my dreams!" True, it lacks the required fireman poles and giant mounted slingshots, but it makes up in shear size and sprawl. Oh and I thought it was obvious, but this is not actually a "redneck mansion." Besides the level of creativity required, I don't think the average "redneck" would have the financial resources to rent a crane to stack the shipping containers like that. It's actually an outdoor theater stage in Amsterdam built for a production of "Ivanov."

I guess CERN (the Swiss dudes that built the Large Hadron Collider) said that the Collider was a success. The particles from the beam whipped all the way around the 17 mile long tubes.They released some compelling readout screen prints like the one below as proof. With such moving and detailed images like these, I can't wait to see what kind of videos they're going to release!!!

We went to West Seattle Bowl to take advantage of their "Quartermania" special on Sunday. I bowled a 220 on my second game!!! I did well the whole night actually. The average of the 3 games I bowled was 184.Anyway, the excitement was captured on Jeremy's much ridiculed white iPhone. You may have noticed that Jeremy's score is blurred out. Jeremy... how should I put this... didn't bowl 220 and was a little ashamed of his score. Now I Can't Eat Crab Legs Without Being Creeped Out!

Last week I saw this pic of a coconut crab at a Christmas Island construction site. According to the Wikipedia article about them, they are also called "robber crabs" because they are attracted to shiny objects like pots and pans and snatch them from people's houses.This is super not cool! Me a Jeremy were commenting on how we would be way more freaked out if we saw this thing digging through our trash than a bear (well at least a smallish bear).Anyway... yesterday we went to Todai for dinner and I loaded up on the crab legs as usual. But I couldn't help feeling creeped out while I was cracking them open. I kept imagining I was eating this guy. Coconut crabs can apparently live up to like 30 or 40 years. That's like at least a 25 year statue of limitation for revenge. Let's hope they don't hold a grudge.I think I'm developing a crab phobia.

My crappy web hosting company had some serious server problems yesterday. This resulted in an increase of downtime (70% of the day instead of like the usual 15%), and more interestingly, it caused toddparty.com, toddparty.net, toddparty.org, and even toddparty.info to all point to what I can only assume is another of their clients websites. What was the website that was receiving all my valuable, valuable traffic? A parked generic ad site? Porn? No! It was replaced by a zipper manufacturer's website. You can check it out here at the awfully named ZipToCollege.com.If any of you had seen this, assumed that I went into the zipper manufacturing business, and then subsequently purchased any amount of zippers to attempt to show your support towards my new business endeavor, please call them up and demand they give me a portion of the sale for my unwitting referral!

I found a really cool collection of pictures of the Large Hadron Collider at the Boston Globe's website. These pics are really amazing. They're cooler than any sci-fi movie prop I've ever seen. The one below is a photo of the "ATLAS Hadronic endcap Liquid Argon Calorimeter." Damn... Even the names are cool.

This guy couldn't figure out why he kept finding ants in is computer room until his wife told him she couldn't get the printer/scanner to work right. On inspection, he found that ants had made a farm-like nest under the glass of the scanner part.I don't know if he scanned them or not. That seems like the obvious next step to me though.

I found this on my daily morning visit to NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day. It's Sunday's pic of a "square nebula." The description says it's not really square, but actually a cylinder viewed from the side. Here's the cool part though: It has a star in the middle and shoots hot gasses out the ends! That's awesome. Also, it makes me think that maybe Pastafarianism shouldn't be a joke. Maybe god lives in a macaroni nebula.

I updated the navigation here today. You'll notice there are a couple buttons that don't do anything. They will eventually. I'm going to make themes for toddparty. Variations on an Arnold Palmer

Yoshie recently discovered Arnold Palmers (the drink, not the ummm... plural of the golfer). Last night when she was checking what Wikipedia had to say on the subject, she discovered that there are alcoholic variations of the drink. I had a problem with all of them. Not because they are alcoholic variations of a popular nonalcoholic drink, but because they were all named improperly or ill conceived.The first in the article is a "Tom Arnold." This is basically an Arnold Palmer with vodka. This name just doesn't sound right to me. I would think if someone wanted to put the "Tom" part in the name, then the drink should have gin in it. That's a Tom Collins with iced tea instead of seltzer. The rest of the drinks seemed like the were hastily whipped together in a corporate kitchen for a recipe to print on the back of a bottle.Anyway, after much deliberation, I came up with my own Arnold Palmer alcoholic variation with a clever name: A Sweaty Palmer! That's an Arnold Palmer with tequila and a salted rim. I'm not sure if it's actually good or not. I don't really like tequila, so I wouldn't be the best judge.

Sorry I haven't posted for a while. And sorry I'm not going to the Bush tonight. I'm sick with a stupid summer cold. I tried to avoid my dad and brother who already had it, but I guess it traveled all the way around the world and back to me.I've been staying on a strict regiment of Day/NyQuil and Emergen-C. I even tried playing Dr. Mario with Yoshie last night. I thought it might boost my immune system's morale to see me kicking a## like that. Some of that stuff must have worked because I feel slightly less crappy right now than I did at lunch.div#main{overflow:visible;} P.S. Last Friday, some artist spent 8 hours in front of on lookers in Time Square carving a one-ton block of cheddar cheese into an homage to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To me, this seems to signal a new trend of the decline in the traditional blowing-crap-up-idness of America's Independence Day celebrations. Does this mean that fireworks are on the way out? For the Native American's sake, I hope not. I don't think their economy can handle the shift in demand. P.S. That security guard looks like he wants to celebrate America's independence by showing a little get-that-mutha-f###ing-cheese-iousness.

I guess some guy robbed a bank in West Seattle (Wooo Woooo! West Seattle!!!). He robbed it wearing a wig and his face painted with black shoe polish. Wait wait. Does that mean this guy robbed a bank in black face? I'm posting my artist rendition so you can be the judge.Anyway, the cops chased his get away SUV all the way to Capital Hill and then back down to Down Town. The dude got stuck at 1st and Spring at some construction and was promptly shot at by like 100 police officers. He's still alive, but in critical condition (go fig).

Ok. Maybe everyone has seen this already because as Dan Savage says "the internet is a race", but me and Jeremy just discovered unpornographied photo montages on YouTube yesterday.For those of you not in the know, or those who know the real name for what I'm talking about, unpornographied photos are where they take particularly graphic porno stills and then draw over all XXX parts with G-rated cartoon stuff in the style MS Paint. I would try to find some examples and embed them here, but they are mostly 18 and over only verified. Also, I'm at work and for someone looking at my screen from all the way down the hall it might be slightly NSFW. I'll try to at least put a link when I get home.Update: We found this totally by accident and I couldn't adequately reproduce the secret steps in the right order to get back to this. I suck at blogging.
